Many R/C sport kits and RTR
cars come with mechanical speed controls which are controlled
by a servo. While mechanical speed controls are good for
beginning drivers, they may be inadequate for those who
desire the highest performance from their RC vehicle.
Mechanical
speed controls require more maintenance and attention than
electronic speed controls. Electronic speed controls allow
for smoother throttle control, handle high performance motors
and are more efficient, allowing for longer run times from
batteries. High performance speed controls have many options
including traction control, braking and programmable throttle
and brake settings.
Some speed controls only include
forward options and no reverse options. These speed controls
are great for stock motor races and races that do not allow
the use of reverse on a track. However if you are not only
racing but are just looking for plain fun, a speed control
with forward and reverse is right for you.
